The Elder Scrolls Online Reveals New Elsweyr Expansion, New Necromancer Class Confirmed (VIDEO)
After teasing the addition of a new expansion last week, Bethesda has now confirmed that Elsweyr is indeed coming to The Elder Scrolls Online. The newly announced expansion will unveils a number of neat additions to the sprawling online world of Tamriel as well as a huge array of updates arriving to the game throughout the next year.
According to the company’s most recent blog post, the “Season of the Dragon” will soon be upon us.”The Dragons have returned to Tamriel,” reveals Bethesda’s post. “Unleashed upon the world by the unwitting Abnur Tharn and the Imperial usurper queen Euraxia, the great Kaalgrontiid and his followers hunt from the skies and threaten to burn down the ancestral home of the Khajiit.” “New stories, adventures, and challenges” are also teased to be packed in the forthcoming update, a number of which include:
- A whole new zone to explore: Elsweyr
- An epic main story quest line that ties into the Season of the Dragon
- A powerful new Class: Necromancer
- A challenging new 12-player Trial: Sunspire
- Massive new world events: Dragon Attacks
- A huge amount of unique delves, public dungeons, and stand-alone quests
- A host of updates and quality-of-life improvements
The cat is most definately out of the bag as Tamriel’s feline folk the Khajiit are finally given prominence, calling upon players to defend the newly debuting locale against the threat of dragons. Those familiar elsewhere in the Elder Scrolls series may already be familiar with the fire-spewing behemoths, but as Dragonborn abilities aren’t yet available in TESO, Bethesda states that “you’ll need to work with your fellow players and powerful allies in order to take these winged beasts down.”
Elsweyr’s addition of the previously-rumored Necromancer class is also sure to delight players, as most anyone would probably enjoy wielding the powers of the undead. As Bethesda describes it: “With this dark, mysterious new Class, you will be able to command the dead and cast powerful elemental spells to overcome your foes and bolster your defenses. With the Necromancer, death itself is a weapon!”
The online title’s stand-alone Season of the Dragon story is promised to hold a special significance as it progresses throughout the year. The upcoming Wrathstone DLC dungeon pack is slated to sow the seeds for the upcoming interconnected adventure, the Elsweyr Chapter next beginning on June 4th. Those interested in trekking the area early, Players on PC and Mac are able to take part in the expansion’s Early Access trial scheduled to begin May 20th.
The Elder Scrolls Online is currently available for Mac, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
