DayZ Overhaul Underway With New Engine, Cause Of Extensive Early Access Period

DayZ Overhaul

Many gamers know DayZ as the open-world survival title from Bohemia InteractiveIt’s also possible that the game has received attentiong over the past few years because of the amount of time that it has spent in Early Access. Thanks to a recent statement from the developer, we now know that a complete DayZ overhaul is currently underway, which has prevented the full launch from happening.

According to Lead Producer Eugen Harten, PC players will experience something more along the lines of a “reboot” with how much everything has changed. This is actually due to the fact that they are performing the DayZ overhaul by using a new engine. A Bohemia PR rep also cleared the air on a few statements, saying:

“It’s basically the reason why we are in Early Access for so long,” he told the site. ” Bohemia started a development of a new Enfusion Engine along with DayZ standalone—an engine that’s meant to empower our future games.”

“The upcoming PC 0.63 Experimental update is going to introduce a sizeable chunk of these long-awaited tech changes that will have a massive influence over how DayZ plays and feels in general. So it’s definitely a huge milestone for the game itself, as big as having almost a completely new engine can be, but relaunch is perhaps not the correct word.”

“This has been the plan all along: DayZ beta (when our 0.63 update reaches ‘stable branch’ on Steam) will introduce major tech changes that improve the gameplay, along with some new content and features,” he said. “The road from beta to 1.0 will be mostly about polishing those, balancing everything, and doing additional smaller content drops.”

There’s still no concrete release date for the game, but Harten did mention that the DayZ overhaul marks the “beginning of the end” of the Early Access period. Once complete, Xbox One and PC players will have the chance to check out the title in its final form.
