Last month marked the announcement that Darksiders 3 would be arriving this Fall and will include some challenging new puzzle concepts that get more interesting as players progress. Fans will notice that this go-around, the puzzles offer more sophistication and spur players into thinking about how to engage with the environment. Of course, there are plenty of old favorites and throwbacks to the original games as well.

IGN got a first look at the Darksiders 3 gameplay, offering up almost six minutes of world exploration and puzzle explanation. Gunfire Games’ lead level designer Richard Vorodi and design director John Pearl guide its entirety with commentary on what they’ve been hatching for this latest installment. Here is what Pearl had to say about the way puzzles evolve as players progress:

How it works is, basically, the closer you get to the fantasy elements of the game, the more fantastic the puzzle elements become. When you’re on the surface of New York, you’re going to see way tamer things than you would down here in the centre of the Earth.”

Darksiders 3 lands players in the role of Fury tasked with hunting down and destroying the Seven Deadly Sins. Set during the apocalypse on Earth, players will get to experience many of the themes and settings they’ve loved from previous installments.
