Beyond Good And Evil 2: First Look At Gameplay Footage (VIDEO)
As they had “promised”, the developers for Beyond Good and Evil 2 decided to host a livestream to give the gaming community a huge inside look at the game’s overall progress, timeline, and even some gameplay. Trusting that the community will welcome the current stage of development of the game with an open mind, three of the developers sit down with Ubisoft to show off everything they’ve created thus far.
Keep in mind, this is all pre-alpha stage footage, so it won’t be as polished as most will expect. The team on Beyond Good and Evil 2 will be saving lots of the juicy bits for E3 2018. For now, check out a first-look at gameplay footage for the upcoming sequel:
Speaking on the timeline without revealing too much of Beyond Good and Evil 2’s plot, the developers dive in deep on the game’s setting – when and where it takes place. Since it is a prequel to the original title released in 2003, BGE2 takes place during the “golden age of piracy”, which is set after the year 2360. After the golden age of science begins in 2040, the invention of propulsion engines make space piracy possible. The first talking hybrid race was created in 2086 – Pey’j.
Although there are a total of 5 expeditions that leave Earth to various systems, BGE2 will follow System 3. As a feature of the story, none of these expeditions will have the ability to contact Earth after departure. In 2415, there are massive colonies rather than small camps and an example of that in System 3 is Ganesha City, which is just one location within the game. Following that and the golden age of piracy is the birth of Jade, who was the main protagonist of the original game.
In terms of actual gameplay, players can create their own character with a great amount of creativity and freedom from choice of races such as human or various hybrids, and genders as well. A few examples can be seen on the image gallery above (right). To keep things real interesting, there will be real-time, non-scripted events that will occur during the game where players have the freedom to interact with as they please. If a ship is being attacked by another force, one can choose to enter the ship and attack it from within. There will be battleships, dogfights, close-quarter combat, swords, and different ways of engaging in combat. And of course, there will be space battles.
As for the story of Beyond Good and Evil 2, more details will be revealed during E3 2018. With that being said, the developers have placed prioritized effort in tying in pieces of the first game to BGE2. For those loving the look of the BGE2 already, the developers reiterated that it’s friendly for people who have not played the original game. In fact, whether or not you’re interested in the story, the discovery will happen organically as you play the game.
