The Avatar Sequels Add to Their Cast List – Welcomes Walking Dead Star
Fans of the sci-fi powerhouse Avatar have four new films to look forward to, each with a confirmed release date. With that much more to look forward to, it’s not surprising that casting news starts to make its way to the forefront. In a new report from Entertainment Weekly, Walking Dead’s Cliff Curtis has been cast for all four of the upcoming films as the character known as Tonowari for the upcoming Avatar sequels.
Who is Tonowari? According to EW, all we know about the New Zealand native’s character is that he is “the leader of the reef people clan Metkayina”. No new information about his character has been released at this time, though with the confirmed schedule, more and more news about the franchise is on the way, likely soon.
Fans of Curtis may be curious as to how the intense scheduling of these four films will impact his work on the Fear the Walking Dead spin-off show. So far, there is nothing to suggest that it will negatively affect his work on the show, but there are of course rumors that this might spur the TV series to kill off his schedule. At the time this article was written, there was nothing suggesting that the speculation around Curtis’ character is anything more than rumor.
Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington, and Stephen Lang are all returning to reprise their roles from the first movie with James Cameron once again taking the helm of the Director’s chair.
In case you missed the announcement dates announcement, the first sequel will be hitting theaters on December 18th, 2020 and will be “well worth waiting for” according to an interview with Sigourney Weaver:
I’m telling you, those scripts are so amazing. I’m not worried about disappointing fans at all. Am I worried about how we’re going to bring the to life? Yes, because they’re so ambitious. They’re so worth it. They’re well worth waiting for. I’m not worried about that at all, we’re trying to get it done as quickly as possible.”
