Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey Reveals New Features For Console Release

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey boasts a pretty unique premise in that it puts players in the shoes (feet?) of their ancient ape ancestors, challenging one to survive in the harsh environments of yester-age. With development headed by Assassin’s Creed creator Patrice Désilets, the game’s prehistoric world is now expanding from PC to consoles, with a number of new features set to be introduced along the way.

Taking to social media. developer Panache Digital Games has revealed a number of additions for Ancestors’ console release, listing off several new updates and features being implemented this time around. Firstly, the presence of new objectives and tutorial pop-ups were confirmed for the release, as well as revisions to the game’s RPG, Generation, and Evolution menus.

Next featured were improvements to the game’s targeting system, which will be tweaked to be more responsive. Going live for players on both consoles as well as PC, “it will now be easier to grab a weapon instead of a fruit when being attacked by a hyena (among others),” the post confirmed. Players will also have more opportunities to play, allowing the creation of custom games based on a snapshot of progress–including  Species, RPG progress, Evolution missions.

Interacting with other clan members was confirmed to be getting increased functionality, with players able to easily keep track and analyze their ape brethren from afar. On the other hand, exploring and searching for additional hominids has been also tweaked, allowing outsider encounters to spawn much more frequently than in the past.

The aforementioned console release for Ancestors takes place on December 6th, with a corresponding update happening for PC on the same date. As the studio confirms a lack of discernible differences between these two versions, fans can expect all these listed features to be available on PC as well. That being said, it’s currently unknown when any potential follow-up content might see its way out, as Panache’s efforts until this point had been focused on delivering these gameplay improvements.

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is out now for PC, and releases for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on December 6th.
