Have you been dying a little inside every week the Doctor does not appear on you screen? We have too, but cry no more! The Doctor Who Christmas special is coming! BBC released the trailer for The Return of Doctor Mysterio featuring our stern Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor along with an unexpected travel companion, Nardole played by Matt Lucas. We won’t get to see Pearl Mackie’s Bill character as the companion until next year, but we can’t wait! Here is the official trailer for the Doctor Who Christmas Special:

Looks like the Whoniverse is getting it’s first super hero! Justin Chatwin plays The Ghost who, let’s face it, is probably just some different kind of alien that landed on that planet and wanted to be special or is secretly a villain…. Who knows! The really confusing thing is that Nardole, who we last saw in the 2015 Christmas Special, The Husbands of River Song, was left as just a severed head attached to the King of Hydroflax’s giant robot body, but now he seems to be whole again. It leaves us wondering how he became whole again and why is he now happily traveling with the Doctor? Also included in this trailer are characters like Lucy Fletcher, who is reminiscent of Lois Lane to the “Superman” like Ghost, and Mr. Brock, this episode’s villain. Lucy seems to be helping the Doctor investigate the invasion of brain swapping aliens led by Mr. Brock, who says, “We’re here to open your minds”, and we’re like, no thanks Mr. Brock…

The Return of Doctor Mysterio will air on BBC America and BBC One on Christmas day and you can even watch it on the big screen in select North American theaters on December 27th and 29th.
