Shenmue 3 Not to Make E3 Appearance – Reveals New Character

Shenmue 3

With E3 rapidly approaching, fans are beginning to learn more about which games will be featured in this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. One that will not be making an appearance will be the Kickstarter-backed Shenmue 3. After being announced at E3 in 2015, the direct sequel to the first two installments went on to demolish its goal on the fundraising site, earning over six million dollars. Even though Ys Net won’t be bringing the title to Los Angeles in a couple of weeks, they have released an update video that showcases a new character, which can be seen here.

In the video, we can see the development team checking the model for any imperfections, mainly “polygon dents and movement”. It is also noted that this character is new, which is why its “scary mug” is unrecognizable. The Shenmue 3 team will be hard at work developing the game during the month of June, and this contributes to the fact that they won’t be at E3. Here’s what was said in the post that came along with the video:

We have also been receiving questions from our backers regarding our plans to participate in upcoming game shows. While our schedule has yet to be finalized, we will be devoting June to game development and as a result, will unfortunately not be participating in any game shows. On the other hand, we look forward to bringing you our monthly updates and hope you do too!”

It’s always great to see developers committed to their projects, especially when they are crowd-funded. Of course, it would have been nice to see Shenmue 3 at E3 next month, but it is completely understandable as to why we won’t. The game is available for pre-order on PC and PlayStation 4 right here, but a launch date has not been announced yet. Don’t Feed the Gamers will be present at the upcoming expo, so stay tuned to ensure you don’t miss anything!

What say you, gamers? Disappointed that Shenmue 3 won’t be appearing at E3, or are you glad that the team is deciding to remain in the office and continue to work? Were you able to back the Kickstarter project when it was live? What about the upcoming title are you most excited for?
