Star Wars: The Last Jedi Adds New Character to the Resistance – An “Unlikely Hero”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi - New Character

The Internet may still be riding the high they received yesterday when the trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi dropped. However, just because that is the biggest look at the upcoming film that fans will be getting for some time, that doesn’t mean the hype train is even thinking about slowing down. This, of course, is thanks to the Star Wars Celebration in Orlando. Lucasfilm made an announcement at said event, and it pertained to a new character being added to the Resistance.

Rose, who works in maintenance for the Resistance, is being played by Kelly Marie Tran. It was announced that Tran was added to the cast when the company revealed the film entered production, but like it has been with most things involving The Last Jedi, her role was kept under wraps. Who was this new character going to be, and what’s with all the secrecy?

Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Rose

It turns out that Kelly just might be playing a very key role in The Last Jedi. During the panel for the upcoming film at the Star Wars Celebration, director Rian Johnson likened Rose to Luke Skywalker, in that they can each be seen as an “unlikely hero.” He also mentioned that “She gets pulled in a very big way,” referring to the adventure that Rey and Finn have gotten themselves into. This could very well be the reason behind all the secrets.

Tran revealed that she even had to keep everything hidden from her family. They had been told she was filming an indie film in Canada for four months. Little did they know, she was potentially saving the galaxy in what are arguably the greatest wars to ever take place among the stars. The Last Jedi is set to release on December 15.

Are fans excited to see what is in store for Rose? Should Johnson have focused on the already known heroes, or will the addition of a new character make things even better?
