Sony Gives Us A Closer Look at The World of New Horizon: Zero Dawn (Video)
Sony recently released a new trailer for their upcoming open world action-role playing game Horizon Zero Dawn. The two and a half minute featurette titled “Creating a New World” shows off the various beautiful environments players will be exploring when they dive into the PlayStation exclusive come early next year. In the video, we’re taken through several different locations and “eco-topes” as developers from Guerrilla Games (best known for their first-person-shooter series Killzone) speak about the challenges and opportunities they faced with creating a completely different type of game. You can view the trailer below.
Guerrilla managing director Hermen Hulst said the following with regard to the creative process:
“We’re known for our first-person shooters series, Killzone. Storytelling in an open world in an RPG is not something that we hadn’t done before, but I think all of us, we really welcome it as a wonderful opportunity to create something that’s so fresh, so new–it’s a wonderful challenge for us.”
In certain sections of the featurette you can see actual footage captured from the PlayStation 4 Pro system which we spoke about in detail when we covered Sony’s boasts about extra details and enhanced colors for the game on their upgraded system. The game’s art director Jan-Bart Van Beek reveals that the different weather environments or again “eco topes” as the developer calls them will have an impact on gameplay. For instance, a desert “ec0-tope” might have sand storms which could reduce visibility making some objectives more difficult while another environment could have weather conditions that make goals easier to obtain. It was also revealed that Horizon Zero Dawn will feature a full day/night cycle. I have to say that with the over the top visuals combined with what we’ve seen so far of the game mechanics for this RPG that I’m really looking forward to exploring this gorgeous open world. Horizon: Zero Dawn hits shelves on February 28, 2017 exclusively on the PS4 and PS4 Pro.
