Russia Used Footage From A Video Game To “Prove” U.S. Involvement With ISIS

Russia’s Ministry of Defense tried to show the world “irrefutable evidence” that the U.S. is helping the Islamic State militant group (ISIS), but is now receiving a whole lot of backlash from their own followers. It was discovered pretty quickly that part of the footage Russia showed was actually a clip from a computer game.

Russia has been obvious with their judgment of the United States about the ISIS situation, thinking that the country isn’t doing enough to stop them, or in this case that we’re in league with them. Moscow published the video “evidence” in order to prove this theory. According to them, it shows that Washington is actually close to the terrorist group stating that the U.S. is “covering the ISIS combat units to recover their combat capabilities, redeploy, and use them to promote the American interests in the Middle East”.

It didn’t take long before fellow Russians who follow the Ministry on their socials noticed that one of the stills was actually from a game that was uploaded on YouTube in 2015. The game in question is called AC-130 Gunship Simulator: Special Ops Squadron and once their fans began to realize what had happened, the disgruntled commenters came out in droves.

The best part is that the cropped image Russia posted still had a disclaimer on it from the game’s developer stating, “Development footage. This is a work in progress. All content subject to change.” Understandably, the Ministry deleted the images once the word got out. The original game footage used can be seen below:

Another of the stills was determined to be footage from Iraq in 2016. The Ministry’s Russian followers had a lot to say including, “What am I paying my taxes for” and “This is something hands should be cut off for”. Another user said, “Another embarrassment in front of the whole world. I am not even sad for the country, but I laugh in unison with it”.

One even tweeted to the Ministry, “Better yet, won’t you comment on how a screenshot from a game appeared in your evidence file connecting the U.S. with ISIS”. Apparently everyone finds this whole thing to be embarrassing… but also kind of funny!
