Despite the harrowing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, there’s one thing for certain — video games have been a well of solace for millions around the world. In fact, one game that surged in popularity last year was Plague Inc: Evolved. Developer Ndemic Creations recently launched their latest DLC, The Cure, and it’s completely free.

Since the developers announced the downloadable content in November, they disclosed that The Cure will remain free “until COVID-19 is under control.” Interested in seeing how you’ll fare in Plague Inc: Evolved – The Cure? Check out a peek at its content below:

  • Hunt the Disease: Dispatch research teams around the world to find patient zero, track the spread of the outbreak and support local responses.
  • Control the Outbreak: Implement measures such as contact tracing, lockdowns and border closures to limit the spread of the outbreak, whilst getting people to wash their hands and preparing hospitals to prevent them getting overwhelmed.
  • Support the Economy: People won’t comply with poorly designed quarantine measures; use furlough schemes and other policies to drive community support and consensus.
  • Develop a Vaccine: Research, manufacture and distribute a vaccine to stop the disease. Work carefully and promote global cooperation to accelerate development.

Plague Inc: Evolved is a realistic simulation game that tasks the player with finding a cure for a virulent global plague. In The Cure DLC, players must try to stop a deadly global pandemic by allocating resource, locking down countries, investigate treatments, and more. “Created with the help of world health experts from all over the world including the WHO, CEPI and GOARN, Plague Inc: The Cure is an engaging and timely simulation of a global disease response,” Ndemic Creations explained.

Despite its supposedly realistic simulation of a plague’s transmission across the globe , Ndemic Creations had to remind new and existing players that it is still only a game. As a disclaimer, the studio mentioned for clarity: “Please remember that Plague Inc. is a game, not a scientific model and that the Coronavirus is a very real situation which is impacting a huge number of people.”

Plague Inc: Evolved – The Cure is available now for PC.
