Atlus‘ PlayStation exclusive role-playing video game Persona 5 is the 6th installment in the Persona series, all of which are a part of the popular Shin Megami Tensei franchise. This title was already released in Japan in September of last year, but it has finally been made available worldwide as of yesterday. The official Persona 5 launch trailer has also dropped, showing off some of the gameplay and getting players all revved up – check it out below:

Set in Tokyo, Japan, Persona 5 follows a team of masked vigilantes who are called the Phantom Thieves of Hearts. Their leader, the silent protagonist, has just been transferred to Shujin Academy after he was falsely accused of assault and put on probation. He and a few other students at the school suddenly discover their Persona powers and then become the Phantom Thieves of Hearts in order to steal ill intent from the hearts of adults using the supernatural Palace realm to do it.

As fans of the previous games can see in the new trailer, this installment continues to have the characters battle supernatural enemies with the manifestations of their psyche that are called Personas. Persona 5 contains dungeon exploration as well as scenarios with social simulation, all wrapped up in a neat little role-playing package. The Persona 5 launch trailer not only shows off all of the vigilante’s moves, but also reveals the SteelBook Launch Edition that is available now, and it looks beautiful.

Persona 5 is currently available for both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
