28 Year Old Shoots Mother In Fatal Argument Over Broken Gaming Headset
Matthew Nicholson, a 28 year old man residing in California is currently in police custody for the murder of his mother Lydia Nicholson, 68, and attempted murder of his father, Loren Nicholson, 81. At their home in Ceres, California, an argument broke out between Nicholson and his mother. It was reported by Fox 40 news that personal issues arose after the mother went to check on him as he was playing video games. According to reports, Nicholson blamed his mother for a broken gaming headset during the heated exchange.
The situation quickly escalated into rage before he threatened the lives of both parents. It was soon after that Nicholson grabbed a handgun and fired two shots into the house before turning the weapon to his mother with a fatal shot in the head. Before more damage could be done, the father managed to wrestle it away from Nicholson before he subsequently fled the scene toward the home of his sister, Autumn White, in Riverbank.
Loren reported to the police as soon as possible to track his son and get help for his wife, who was rushed to the hospital and later died from her injuries. “I understand that he would’ve killed the father too, but the gun jammed,” told a friend of the family to Fox 40.
It was hours later that law enforcement was able to locate and arrest Nicholson at a traffic stop. Currently, Nicholson is being held in the Stanislaus County Jail for homicide without bail.
White wrote on Facebook to express her grief, and remember the life she had. “I will forever love you, my best friend, my chosen one, my always, my forever my protector, my motivation, my blessing, and now my guardian angel,” she wrote. “My heart is shattered and I promise your memory will live on forever in me, Dad, Cameron and Chris. You’ve earned your wings, fly and be free.’
A life should not have been lost over a broken gaming headset. Our hearts and our condolences go out to those survived by Lydia Nicholson here at DFTG.
