First Teaser and Poster From Universal’s The Mummy Reboot

Universal has released  a teaser trailer for their upcoming reboot of The Mummy. The film is part of the studio’s bigger plan to create a shared monster cinematic universe and stars Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe and Annabelle Wallis. As the word “teaser” suggest it’s only a 15 second clip but boasts some pretty intriguing images and the promise of a full trailer this Sunday. Check out The Mummy reboot spot below.

At first glance it appears that there’s not really a lot to go on from the clip but a closer inspection of the spot as well as the poster released alongside it might hold some clues. For starters, in contrast to the 1999 film which starred Brendan Fraser and was set around the 1930’s, this newest incarnation of the tale is clearly set in modern day as evident in some of the wardrobe and technology that can be glimpsed. The poster itself (shown below) also appears to feature a sarcophagus secured in the modern looking hull of some sort of military cargo aircraft.

The Mummy Reboot

One of the most obvious differences in The Mummy reboot so far is in fact the mummy this time around the film’s antagonist will be female. Sofia Boutella of Star Trek: Beyond and Kingsman: The Secret Service fame will be portraying the monstrous princess mummy. The official synopsis for the film reads as follows:

Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

Universal’s The Mummy is set to release in theaters on June 9th 2017 with the studio slating 2 more unknown monster movies for April 13th, 2018 and February 15th, 2019.
