Final Fantasy XV Director Opens New Square Enix Studio
Square Enix has announced that it is opening a new studio named Luminous Productions. Additionally, Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata has been named as head of the new studio, which will be based in Tokyo. The director will reportedly be bringing several members with him from his FFXV team.
According to Square Enix, the purpose of Luminous Productions is to develop AAA titles with a focus on bringing innovation and entertainment to a global audience. “Luminous Productions was established with the purpose of developing new AAA titles and bringing innovative game and other entertainment content to a global audience,” Square Enix revealed in a brief press release. “Staffed with members of the creative team behind “FINAL FANTASY XV” developed within another Square Enix Group studio, Square Enix Co., Ltd., Luminous Productions further builds on Square Enix Group’s vision to create new intellectual properties alongside our existing studios.”
Knowing that the Final Fantasy XV director and his team make up the core of the new studio is, to say the least, reassuring. The continued success of FFXV is one of the major reasons why the Final Fantasy franchise is still in existence, so much so that FFXV protagonist Noctis has made his way to both Dissidia: Final Fantasy NT and Tekken 7. The sky seems to be the limit for Tabata and company, and with the Luminous Engine and Square Enix at his back, it will be interesting to see what he does now that he has his own studio.
Final Fantasy XV is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
