Fan-Made Among Us Fighting Game Is Definitely Not Sus (VIDEO)
The popular thrills of Innersloth’s Among Us may keep all its clashes to a text-based medium, but a new fan project is now aiming to add a bit of fisticuff to the proceedings. Created by a team of developers called Starcutter, a new Among Us-themed fighting game has now emerged titled Among Us Arena, putting players into 2D brawls packed all the color-based crewmates from the original.
In development for just over a week, Starcutter formally released Among Us Arena over the weekend, touting a fast-paced playstyle and a myriad of moves based on kill animations from the original Innersloth game. The experience is largely multiplayer based, featuring local and online matchmaking, and even implementation of that sweet rollback netcode that fighting game fans love. A video from YouTuber Cookietriangle shows off a fairly comprehensive look at the game’s combat, which can be seen below.
Though released as a fan-creation without the original devs, it looks like Among Us Arena has still earned the respect of Innersloth, with the creators commenting in support of the project several times in the past few days. While the game launched in a fairly competent state, several updates have gone live addressing balancing and online matchmaking, with Starcutter even purchasing additional servers to combat increasing demand.
As for the future, several new updates are expected soon, with Starcutter considering implementing taunts to help differentiate each color, and an additional Mac version on the way. Starcutter may currently be all-in on Among Us Arena, but the developer is also underway on its own standalone project. While details are light about the upcoming title, the fighting experience is assured to be much more substantial and “robust” than the Among Us fighting game.
I’m glad you guys all like my small side project, but please remember that’s all it was meant to be!
I’ve got a much more robust fighter in the works
