Detroit: Become Human Dev Suing Media Outlets For Negative Coverage

Quantic Dream Suing

Detroit: Become Human is closely approaching release, but the story-focused studio behind the game, Quantic Dream, has been under fire in recent months with horrible claims of an inappropriate and toxic workplace environment. The alleged behavior was outright denied by Quantic, with the developer quickly establishing a firm stance against such hateful abuse. It seems continued reporting of this alleged behavior hasn’t sat well with the studio, and has escalated to Quantic Dream suing media outlets for their negative coverage.

As of now, two publications have been targeted by lawsuits according to a report by Kotaku, namely French newspaper Le Monde and the website Mediapart. It was the two sources that largely contributed to the employee abuse allegations earlier this year. The report also makes mention of a third site called Canard PC, who recalls receiving two “threatening letters” from Quantic, but has yet to be issued with similar legal action.

“We’re suing their journalists,” confirmed Quantic Dream CEO David Cage during a recent preview event for Detroit: Become Human. Le Monde journalist William Audureau also spoke regarding the lawsuit, maintaining that they followed “a well-documented, thorough investigation, respectful of the principle that both sides must be heard” and the outlet will continue to “stick with [their] information.”

The process in how Le Monde and Mediapart got their information will definitely be at the center of this trial, as the two will need to retrace their research to prove it came from fair and accurate means. It’s unknown how this recent information might affect the release of Detroit: Become Human, thought its likely a concern evidenced by the act of Quantic Dream suing the outlets responsible.

What do you think? Are David Cage and Quantic Dream correct in defending their studio with legal action, or does a lawsuit only seem to make the developer look guilty?
