Death Stranding No Longer Listed As A PS4 Exclusive
Ever since its cryptic reveal three years ago at Sony’s E3 2016 press event, Death Stranding has been a highly-anticipated PlayStation 4 exclusive title. Sony had entered into a partnership with Metal Gear Solid’s visionary director Hideo Kojima after his severing ties with Konami. Sony stepping in to fund the auteur’s next game – and thus making it a PS4 exclusive – was seen as a stroke of genius. However, there may be more to the story than previously thought.
A post on ResetEra showed that PlayStation’s official Australian site no longer has Death Stranding listed as a PlayStation 4 exclusive title. The game had previously been listed as being a PS4 exclusive, the poster notes, bringing a whole new amount of intrigue to the story. The reasons for this could be somewhat explainable. There is a possibility that Death Stranding may simply be a timed exclusive, suggesting that it will release on other platforms at some point after its initial release. The ResetEra post also shows an archive from prior to the game’s E3 reveal that suggests that they were planning on releasing the new Hideo Kojima game on PC. When asked how long the exclusivity period would last, Sony did not disclose in that interview. The press release in which all this was mentioned has been archived, though you can view the full thing here.
The removal of this PR statement and the de-listing seem at least partially indicative that we may be getting a more widespread release of Death Stranding at some point in the future. This wouldn’t be the first time PlayStation exclusives have eventually come to PC. Just recently Quantic Dream’s PS3 and PS4 releases were given PC ports, with Detroit: Become Human coming sometime later this year. Metal Gear Solid V’s PC port was very well received by gamers and the active modding community. It would be awesome to see Death Stranding follow suit and take full advantage of a more than willing PC modding community.
