Assassin’s Creed And Watch_Dogs Take Place In Same Universe, Evidence Confirms

Ubisoft’s recent release of Assassin’s Creed: Origins has already brought forth some pretty clever Easter eggs. With a game that takes place in extensive past and present worlds, there’s sure to be a plethora of hidden gems yet to be found. One of the most recent finds is that of an image that confirms that Assassin’s Creed and another Ubisoft IP, Watch_Dogs, happen to take place in the same universe.

The majority of gameplay throughout the Assassin’s Creed franchise takes place in historic environments. The franchise has its fair share of moments that take place in a sci-fi, modern setting as well. This “modern” setting will be the glue that holds this long rumored theory together. Ubisoft have teased and joked about the AC and Watch_Dogs shared Ubiverse, and even placed a few Easter eggs in both franchises’ titles. The latest of which contains definitive proof that the properties are both within the same world.

The theories began after Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag character, Oliver Garneau was found in the first Watch_Dogs title. In Black Flag’s modern setting, Garneau was headed to Chicago, the same city where Watch_Dogs took place. Watch_Dogs protagonist Aiden Pearce has the option to take out Garneau in a side mission. Likewise, the evil corporation Blume exists in both games.

In Origins’ modern day setting, players can browse through a laptop. Within the computer’s folders, players can look through files of past Abstergo employee files. One such file contains an image of CCTV footage of Aiden Pearce executing Oliver Garneau next to a burning car. The image comes paired with a note that reads:

I’ll admit. It’s hard to know what’s going on in this scene. From what I could tell from the CCTV footage, the latest matched Olivier Garneau’s car rental. And it does look like him but, well, that’s not his best angle, to say the least. It’s all speculation, of course, because the official version is that he never made it to Chicago. But I know otherwise …””I’ll admit,” the screenshot reveals, “It’s hard to know what’s going on in this scene. From what I could tell from the CCTV footage, the latest matched Olivier Garneau’s car rental. And it does look like him but, well, that’s not his best angle, to say the least. Who’s to say if we’ll ever see an official crossover game, but it does add some sort of extra flare to think the titles exist within the Ubiverse. Both franchises can be found on multiple platforms, and as far as the latest Assassin’s Creed entry is concerned, Origins is available now on Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4.

Did you already believe that the Watch_Dogs and Assassin’s Creed stories took place in the same shared world? Do you think there’s anyway to fully cross the two games over without corrupting either franchise? Let us know in the comments section below.
