New American McGee Alice Game In Development

It’s been nearly 8 years since Alice: Madness Returns released in PS3 and Xbox 360 from designer American McGee, and the latest generation of console gamers will see yet another iteration! After a long bout of relative silence from the team that developed the well-received, modern twist on a classic fairy tale, they’ve finally decided to break the spell with the reveal of Alice: Asylum.

Despite being the third entry into McGee’s popular series, Alice: Asylum is a prequel to the previous two. The main plot takes place during a time period where our young protagonist still resides in the asylum as she “fights through the trauma of losing her family.” Instead of moving on the traditional route of funding the game’s development, the team has taken to Patreon to receive support from prospective and long-time fans alike. Of course, contributions come with tiers of rewards as well.

Having spent a significant part of his career working with a company called Mysterious since Alice: Madness Returns, McGee is ready to present another stroke of mad genius.

Mysterious is also where I’m starting work to present a new chapter in the Alice series with ‘Alice: Asylum.’ My goal is to build a production/design plan, have that plan approved by EA, and then raise funding to develop a new game. I’m aiming at an as-yet unspecified date for the launch of the crowdfunding campaign and will spend the time leading up to this date preparing art, writing story/design, and sharing all of this with the Alice community.”

Alice: Asylum will become the “world’s first ever crowd-designed triple A game,” and the developers are excited to see where fans take Alice next. Eventually, the team plans on knocking on the door of video game mega-publisher EA (Electronic Arts). There might not be a release window as of yet, but the loyal follow of the Alice series invites success. To become part of the Alice: Asylum family, check out the Patreon page here!
