One franchise that has seen its fair share of entries has been that of Assassin’s Creed. With the latest installment, Origins, flying high, many might wonder what could be next for the series. That being said, fans could possibly be getting their hands on a previous game in the franchise, but on modern hardware. Listings on a few Italian retail sites point to 2014’s Assassin’s Creed Rogue getting an HD re-release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue may not have the player-base that other entries have, but that is only because it was released for PS3 and Xbox 360 at the same time Unity arrived on the current generation of consoles. This may have led to many gamers overlooking the title. If the remaster spotted by Twitter user AccesstheAnimus holds any truth, it would give Assassin’s Creed Rogue a well-deserved second chance, and in glorious HD fashion. Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time Ubisoft will have given an Assassin’s Creed entry the updated treatment. The PS Vita’s Assassin’s Creed Liberation made it to the Xbox 360 and PS3 a few years ago, while The Ezio Collection was released just last year for the PS4 and Xbox One. This contained updated versions of Assassin’s Creed II, Brotherhood, and Revelations.

No official word has been released by Ubisoft regarding the HD version of Rogue. If these Italian retail listings are legitimate, the title will have a $40 price tag and a March 18-ish release date. Even if they prove to be false, Xbox One owners can currently play Assassin’s Creed Rogue via backwards compatibility. For everyone else, the title is available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
