New Star Trek: Discovery Clip Shows Sonequa Martin-Green Facing Off With a Klingon (VIDEO)

Sonequa Martin-Green Star Trek Discovery

A new age for Star Trek fans is approaching very soon with the premier of CBS’s Star Trek: Discovery. The new series takes place a decade prior to the events of the original Star Trekand stars Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead) as First Officer of the USS Discovery: Michael Burnham. Making an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Martin-Green gave a few details about her character as well as a short clip which shows her standing toe to toe with a Klingon. Check out the clip below:

Sonequa Martin-Green confirmed some details on her character’s origin. First Officer Michael Burnham, though human, was raised by Vulcan. Not just any Vulcan; Sarek, the father of the infamous Star Trek character Spock, who was played by the late Leonard Nimoy. Colbert fired a series of “lightning round” style questions at the actress to confirm that her character’s birth parents were killed by Klingons.

This will be the first Star Trek television episode in over twelve years, of course there have been the rebooted films, but those are non-canon, according to die-hard fans. As Martin-Green explains to Colbert, CBS is keeping a pretty tight lid on details of the forthcoming series until it releases on their All Access streaming platform. So much so that even other CBS news and talk shows aren’t being given episodes to watch, just short clips and trailers. Discovery is a high-budget worthy of competing against Hollywood blockbuster films in terms of special effects and the big-scale space battles fans have already seen.

You can see Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham on Star Trek: Discovery on September 24th via CBS All Access.
