Conan’s Hilarious “Clueless Gamer” Segment Will Now Be Its Own Show!
It’s a guilty pleasure of ours but we haven’t done much to hide how much we here at DFTG love Conan O’Brien’s “Clueless Gamer” bit on his late night TV show. Hilarious segments that involve Conan, a random celebrity, and a “hot” game to play with him having absolutely no idea what he is doing. It’s hilarious, we’re not going to lie. When we found out Clueless Gamer will be getting its own series, we may or may not have flipped out.
TBS President Kevin Reilly spoke with the Hollywood Reporter that O’Brien is not jumping his late night slot for a weekday gig, instead the show itself will be making some “altercations”. One of those altercations happens to include an emphatic focus on the late night host’s wildly popular bit – you guessed it – Clueless Gamer.
We’re going into production next month on a new series, Clueless Gamer, based on the viral video he’s done where he essentially makes fun of video games, gets celebrities to play and makes commentary on them. We’ve gotten to the point where video game companies are sending us their new product for us to play and make fun of because it’s been such a huge success. We’re going to go into production on a series of that.”
OK … Squee! Though it’s less “making fun of” and more poking fun of the fact that he knows he’s got absolutely no clue what is going on in-game, no matter the title of choice. It’s less mockery, more good-natured fun, and trust us – it’s fantastic.
In a marketing demo for the pitch of the new series, #TeamConan (yes, the hashtag is necessary) has revealed that their target audience is quite varied, angling towards male and female audiences ranging from 18-49 years old:
You have 30 million people watching these videos of his. He has the youngest audience profile of any talk show host on TV. He has maintained this incredible relationship with a very young audience and that’s something really interesting.”
No word on whether or not Clueless Gamer will be a web-only series or will make its debut officially on TVs everywhere, but we are definitely excited to see how this pans out. If it stays true to the comedy bit, we have no doubts that fans will be nothing less than entertained.
Haven’t checked out any previous features of Clueless Gamer? Shame! Let’s fix that – check out just a few of the features we’ve done on DFTG with our favourite red-haired comedian. Team CoCo!
