Xbox’s Duke Controller From Hyperkin Goes Green, But There’s A Catch

Xbox Duke Controller

When Hyperkin announced that they would be tackling the resurrection of Xbox’s Duke controller, fans were divided. On one hand, some saw no need for the massive peripheral to make its return, but others were beyond elated as its bulkiness will be reminiscent of the old days. After all, it’s The Duke.

However, when Microsoft kicked off their Inside Xbox event earlier, The Duke was looking a little unlike itself. Instead of the black controller many have fond memories of, we saw a green version that was not unlike the three-handed variety that a Nintendo 64 would sport. Check it out for yourself in the video below:

The response was quick: fans need that “beautiful beefy” green Duke controller. Well, and there was a fair amount of people that continue to question its existence. However, no details were given as to how one could go about obtaining the lovely colored peripheral. Some of you might remember that the original Duke also came in green, but that was reserved for Microsoft employees and not made for sale to the general public. Unfortunately, it seems the case remains similar this time around, as Hyperkin only made 15 of them. Here’s a comparison from Major Nelson himself:

As for what will happen with those 15 green Duke controllers, that is up to Hyperkin to decide. Our guess is that they will be (or have been) sent off to some of the more important people in the industry and those close to the project. Phil Spencer likely received one, as the resurrection of an old friend may not have been possible without him. Who knows, maybe we’ll see some of them pop up on eBay in the near future. Only time will tell.

As for the Duke controller that will be available to the public, pre-orders are being taken as we speak, with the launch expected to take place sometime before the end of March.
