Director Andy Muschietti and his Producer sister Barbara Muschietti are working away at making a sequel to the slam dunk remake of Stephen King’s IT, but they are already thinking about another of King’s classics they want to remake. The team wants to bring Pet Sematary back to life, like little Gage who just wanted to play with his Mommy.

The 1989 film was based off of the book by Stephen King of the same name and starred Dale Midkiff and Denise Crosby as the young couple who move into a new home off of a busy road with their two kids. Their sweet, old neighbor, played by the late Fred Gwynne, knows secrets about the woods and the old “pet sematary” that he should have kept to himself. We all know what happens next… “sometimes, dead is better.”

Andy Muschietti said in an interview that this is something they really want to do, he says “My affection for Pet Sematary will go on until I die. I will always dream about the possibility of making a movie.” Unfortunately, Paramount Pictures still holds the rights to the property, according to King’s film agency, so let’s hope they can get their hands on it! According to Barbara Muschietti,

“We’ll see who gets to it first, but it is the first Stephen King book that we read, and it’s something that has been a great love, because it is possibly King’s most personal book. You can imagine his young family. What will you do to be able to keep your family? How far would you go?

I really hope we can do it. But if we do it, we have to do it justice, like we did with It. The versions we read in the past years, the scripts we’ve read, have not been, in our opinion, representative of the book.”

The Muschietti siblings aren’t the first to express interest in remaking the film, another Director has made comments about it too. In 2015 Guillermo Del Toro tweeted that he would also love to make a Pet Sematary film.
