While the news that Neil deGrasse Tyson was helping develop a space strategy game isn’t new, the fact that he will be presenting the game Neil deGrasse Tyson presents Space Odyssey at E3 Coliseum next month is. E3 broke the news in a tweet this morning and the internet is pretty hyped!

Odyssey is a space strategy game, in real time, that allows players to develop and colonize worlds. Players will be able to discover and nurture life-forms, gather resources, build robots, and so much more! It wouldn’t a game ushered into existence by Neil deGrasse Tyson if it wasn’t educational and loaded with science, and according to descriptions, players will be able to even create star systems and galaxies. Here is what Mark Murphy, co-creator of Space Odyssey, had to say:

Part of the gameplay will allow you to grow a planetary system. Its size and scope is relative to the level of challenge you would like to undertake. You can grow and mature these planets as much as you’d like, creating colonies, ports, mining structures, undertake trade of elements you discover/mine or invent or innovate. We are adding strategic partners that will consult with us on design and tech possibilities, including Bigelow Aerospace and the National Space Society to name a couple.”

The Space Odyssey website has a countdown that may just run E3 in tandem with the release of the beta version of the game. Interested parties can sign up for the beta here! Those who can’t make E3 can catch Neil deGrasse Tyson in a Facebook live stream on the day, though that day has yet to be announced. You’ll know more when we do!
