Warface Developer Crytek Announces New “Experimental PVP” Mode

Warface "experimental PVP" mode

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been highly lauded for its high replay value gameplay based on a straightforward premise, so it comes to no surprise that other developers would want to replicate that success, even if that means putting a slightly different spin on the original inspiration and calling it something new. We have already seen this with Epic Games’ Fortnite, whose battle-royale-plus-building-things gameplay has been hugely successful, much to the chagrin of PUBG developer Bluehole. Now, it appears that developer Crytek is also joining in on the fun with its first-person free-to-play shooter, Warface.

In a recent blog post over on the developer’s website, Crytek has announced that it is joining in on the battle royale fun by implementing a “new, experimental PVP” mode into Warface. Simply titled as ‘Battle Royale’ mode, Crytek describes it as “quick-paced combat with an element of the unknown – you never know which gun you’re going to get, with action taking place on the largest PvP map ever seen in the game.” Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Crytek lists the main features of the Battle Royale mode, which can be found below:

Warface: Battle Royale Main Features

  • The game mode takes after the most classic scenario: each man for himself.
  • Dynamic engagement that always keeps you on the move – linger a minute too long and you’ll be caught outside the shield and left for dead.
  • An enormous new map with plenty of areas to explore. No round will ever feel the same – you never know where you’re headed until the “Zone” hits.
  • Plenty of achievements to unlock!

So, all in all we are basically looking at a PUBG clone here, all the way down to the ‘shield’ that closes in and limits the play area over time. The only feature differentiating the new Warface mode from PUBG is that the mode has its own set of achievements, one of which has an icon featuring a bloody frying pan. It will be interesting to see whether or not Crytek attracts some negative attention from Bluehole. The Battle Royale mode is arriving in the game’s next update, so we won’t have to wait long to see how things turn out. Warface is available for download on PC and Xbox One.
