Take-Two Comments on Potential Red Dead Redemption 2 PC Release

Red Dead Redemption 2 PC Release

Not much is known about publisher Take-Two’s upcoming western-themed Red Dead Redemption 2. The most that can be assumed from the long-awaited sequel is that it will feature wide open world gameplay and a similarly gripping story that Rockstar Games is well-known for cooking up. One practice gamers surely wouldn’t want a repeat of is the lack of a proper PC version, an absence many see as a shame due to how beloved the Red Dead games have become. Even with a growing PC market, it’s seems unlikely a Red Dead Redemption 2 PC port will ever see the light of day, but according to Take-Two president Karl Slatoff, it may be more of a possibility now more than ever.

Speaking at a quarterly earnings call, Slatoff addressed a few concerns regarding Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption sequel. He spoke in general terms, careful not to reveal too much about their plans, but gave off more of an optimistic tone than some skeptical gamers may have been expecting.

The great news is that the PC market is vibrant for us. It’s a great market for us. It’s a big market. It’s a core market in consumers that are highly engaged. It’s a predominantly digital market, which also removes friction in terms of ongoing engagement with a consumer. So, for us, the PC market as a company is very important and very exciting and something we focus on.”

Red Dead Redemption 2 PC Release

Grand Theft Auto 5 was one of the more recent titles to go against Take-Two’s no-PC reputation, releasing in April of 2015 to great success. This happened at the height of an anti-PC sentiment among AAA publishers, where piracy was an overly large point of concern. Perhaps the company is more comfortable with a potential Red Dead Redemption 2 PC port now that they’ve scored a big hit with GTA V.

Still, consoles will undoubtedly be the favored platform for established Rockstar franchises and while it may be a while before it happens, it would be admittedly hard to imagine a Red Dead Redemption 2 PC port never coming out. We’ll have to wait and see until after it releases on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018. Should Red Dead Redemption 2 come out on PC?
