Sega “Actively Pursuing” Shenmue HD Remasters Says Executive

One of Sega’s most newsworthy franchises, Shenmue is once again center stage. After months of speculation, Sega Europe’s Vice President of Publishing has confirmed that the company is indeed aiming to bring Shenmue HD Remasters into fruition. I think we can all agree that it’s about damn time.

Earlier in the year, news broke about the publishing company filing for the rights to a couple of Shenmue HD domain names. Just a month later, Community Manager Dan Sheridan left fans hanging in the wind when he neither confirmed nor denied the rumors that the remakes were coming. Now, it seems that the Shenmue HD Remasters are being sought after by the company. Vice President of Publishing, John Clark stated in an interview:

It’s something we would love to make happen, something we are trying to make happen. I think we want it to happen as much as anybody out there. Yes, it’s a serious task and it’s not a task that we’re not working on, if that makes sense. It’s something we’re actively pursuing.”

“Actively pursuing.” That is message of hope for those that love the franchise that was born on the Sega Dreamcast. For fans, it’s no secret that a third installment to the series is already in development. Fans can expect some new footage and announcements later this month at the world famous Gamescon. That footage would go well with an official release date announcement as well as a Shenmue trilogy bundle that includes the illustrious HD Remasters as well as the new entry. Dream big, folks.

No other official information has been announced as of yet, but rest assured that DFTG will report when it does. In the meantime, dust off that old Sega Dreamcast and revisit the journies of Shenmue 1 & 2. What are your thoughts on the Shenmue HD Remasters? Are you excited for the third installment? Would you spend some extra cash on a bundle containing all three games together? Let us know in the comments section below.
