PUBG Breaks Its Record Of Concurrent Players On Steam – 1.5 Million Cheaters Banned

PUBG breaks its own record

There seems to be no stop to the phenomenon that is PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Despite a rough early access period on Steam punctuated with oft-times crippling server issues and crashes, the battle royale title from developer Bluehole steamrolled ahead, especially after it began drawing the attention of popular streamers. More recently, the game was nominated for Game of The Year, despite creator Brendan Greene’s preference that other games be considered instead. As PUBG breaks record after record, it was only a matter of time before it stood in a league of its own, with only itself to surpass. That is exactly what it did recently, as the title broke its record of concurrent users on Steam, finally making it over 3 million users playing at once. Of course, the more popular title the game becomes, the more likely it is to attract cheaters looking to ruin the gaming experience of others. The most recent count of banned users is 1.5 million players, according to BattlEye. Here are the numbers below, announced on the PUBG and BattlEye Twitter pages.

The first noteworthy achievement for PUBG happened earlier this year when the game surpassed DOTA 2 as having the most concurrent players at a time. On October 11 it broke yet another record by passing two million concurrent players on Steam. All these accolades haven’t come easy for PUBG, as mounting competition from new titles such as Fortnite: Battle Royale have been popping up recently aiming to take a slice out of the battle royale pie. Many other games have followed suit with new battle royale modes of their own, including Steam free-to-play title Warface. While Bluehole may not be thrilled with the competition, at least imitation oft-times breeds creativity, with other developers looking to put their own unique spin on the premise that has ensured that PUBG breaks even more records as it adds new content to its PC version and polishes up its recent arrival on the Xbox One.
