Operation Cobra and Other Famous Offensives to Appear in Call of Duty: WWII (VIDEO)

Operation Cobra

When thinking of games set during WWII, there are a few scenes that come to mind. Many previous WWII titles have shown off the invasion of Normandy for example, so much so that some fans may have been a little worried upon seeing the invasion would be in the upcoming Call of Duty: WWII game. Fortunately that isn’t all the game will have to offer and will feature many famous offensives from the war including Operation Cobra, which has never been used within a game before. A recent Tweet gives fans a little insight into what players can expect from the title arriving later this year.

Call of Duty: WWII will feature the European theatre of WWII which includes places such as France and Belgium, offensives such as the Battle of the Bulge and Operation Cobra. This will be the first time that the operation will be seen in a video game ever. For those who care unfamiliar with Operation Cobra, it occurred seven weeks after D-Day and was designed to use the distraction of the Germans created by the British and Canadians in Caen during Operation Goodwood to preform one of the largest aerial bombardments of the war. It will be a fresh new experience that players haven’t seen before and will be an excellent addition to the game.

Many titles featuring the WWII era have attempted to show off a darker side of the game through various means, voice overs of those who were there, recognizable battles, and more. For Sledgehammer, it seems the team has gone above and beyond with their research and inclusion of Martin Morgan to help maintain historical accuracy as the game progresses. The inclusion of Glen Schofield’s father as an influence on the game gives a more personal touch to the main character. Altogether, the hope is that the team will be able to pull off a highly accurate and gritty tale of the war.

Alongside the campaign, the game will also feature a PvP multiplayer, Zombies component, as well as a social hub as seen most recently with the likes of Destiny. Hopefully, the gritty tone of the game’s single player campaign and the historical accuracy will bleed through into the multiplayer experiences as well.

The amount of care Sledgehammer is putting into the upcoming Call of Duty title is much appreciated. Players can get their hands on the game for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and possibly the Nintendo Switch on September 8th of this year.
