Eiji Aonuma Confirms Link’s Faithful Steed Epona for Upcoming Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

LoZ Epona

With the arrival of Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild less than a month away, we have some good news for those looking forward to the newest game in Nintendo’s flagship RPG series.  It has been confirmed that Link’s faithful steed Epona will be making an appearance in the game!  In a recent interview, series producer Eiji Aonuma let slip that Epona will indeed be in the game, though that is all he would reveal, as well as this mysterious comment.

“I do not want to reveal details about how to find her, or what that means.”

So, while we have little information in regards to Epona, we can fill in some gaps with information that we do know.  For one, we know that in order for Link to obtain a horse, he must first find and tame it.  The stronger the wild horse, the more difficult it is to tame, though it seems to require a simple button mash until the horse calms down.

Not Epona

That said, given Link’s ability to seek out and tame horses in the wild, Epona may be unable to be ridden.  It is very possible that Epona will be appearing in some other capacity, or perhaps even in some DLC further down the line, we simply don’t know at this point. However, Epona has been a series’ mainstay since she first rode into our hearts in Ocarina of Time, so we can expect at the very least a memorable encounter with her at some point in the game.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild will be available on March 3, for both the Nintendo Switch and the Wii U.  Are you excited for Breath Of The Wild? Which console will you be getting it on?
