The First ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Trailer has Taken Flight (VIDEO)

Star Trek: Discovery

Arguably one of the most famous sci-fi franchises, Star Trek has captivated audiences for over half a century. It all began aboard the USS Enterprise with Captain James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, but what about the members of the Federation prior to the Enterprise? The new series, set to air on CBS All Access, plans to give fans an all new thrill ride into the depths of the final frontier with Star Trek: Discovery.

Discovery will star The Walking Dead alumni Sonequa Martin-Green as Michael Burnham, who has been newly appointed as the First Officer aboard the USS Discovery. The new series in the franchise will take place 10 years before James Kirk’s adventures. This will be the first Star Trek series since Enterprise ended back in 2005, and the first to be specifically produced for CBS All Access, CBS’ streaming platform. The “First Look” trailer can be seen below:

Discovery is set to debut its two-part premiere on the CBS network some time this Fall. After its premiere, the show’s following 13 episodes will be moved to the All Access platform for those subscribed. The series will take place in what is known as the Prime Universe, which excludes the films by J.J. Abrams.

Martin-Green’s character Michael Burnham is a human who was raised by the intellectually superior Vulcans. Unlike the protagonists from previous Star Trek series, Burnham is not the Captain of the ship, but the First Officer. This will offer a new perspective of a Federation Officer, one that is to take and follow orders, rather than giving them as in past shows. No official release date has been given thus far, but stay tuned with DFTG as more information is released.
