Final Fantasy 15 Switch Tease a ‘Joke’ – Director Backtracks

Final Fantasy 15 Switch version teased

Although it wasn’t necessarily a solid confirmation last month, Final Fantasy 15 game director Hajime Tabata teased during Gamescom that Square Enix’s latest numbered Final Fantasy title would be coming to the Nintendo Switch.  “There’s another certain console out there people may be thinking of that sounds a little bit like you guys, your name, Twitch,” Tabata said regarding a Final Fantasy 15 Switch version.  “I think we’ll just leave it there.”  It appears that the director was simply making a “joke response,” however, which he revealed in a recent interview with Kotaku.

“It was just kind of a joke response,” said Tabata. “That said, we aren’t dismissing the hardware in any way. We believe it’s a great platform, and we’re open to looking for opportunities. And if the opportunity presents itself, and there’s something we can do on that given platform, we’d like to do it.”  The news arrives much to the chagrin of Switch owners ready to drop some money on a Nintendo version of the game, which many assumed would eventually happen given Square Enix’s commitment to get FF15 onto as many platforms as possible.

Final Fantasy 15 Switch version teased

At Gamescom two new versions of Final Fantasy 15 were announced, one being the oft-teased Final Fantasy 15 Windows Edition for PC, and the super adorable Final Fantasy 15 Pocket Edition for windows devices and mobile.  It would not have been a stretch for Square Enix to have announced a Final Fantasy 15 Switch version as well, which makes Tabata’s “joke” so ill placed.  That aside, at least “Chibi FF15” has a solid chance at making it to the Nintendo Switch, and that’s certainly better than nothing.
