Latest Dota 2 Update Adds Features to Help Players New to the Game

In the latest Dota 2 update, the developing team announced a brand new features geared toward new players entering the fray.  According to the official game blog, there have been plenty of concerns regarding the difficulty of getting a handle on the game for a long time coming. There were “some issues that caused unnecessary challenges for new players”, but with the new features, the game should prove less intimidating. First, the hero selection system will change for those between their first and 25th game. With a whopping 112 champions to choose from, it can be difficult for a new player to figure out which character will suit them in terms of gameplay, ease, and style. So, the team knocked the variety of selection down to an “introductory group”.

To help new players, we are now restricting hero selection to a curated group of twenty heroes for their first twenty-five games. This introductory group consists of heroes that we’ve learned are very successful in helping new players learn and enjoy the game.”

Another bane of playing MOBA games are the often scathing and intimidating social interactions with those more experienced. Whether they’re on a competitive streak, lack of patience, or frustration, other players can be downright appalling. So, to remedy that, the Dota 2 team is also introducing a feature that matches new players with those ranked consistently high on behavior scores.

It is especially important for a new player to have a good social experience while they are first trying to learn the game. The matchmaking system will now ensure that new players will play with and against appropriately-skilled players that also have a track record of good behavior.”
