Doctor Doom Film in Development – Noah Hawley Confirms at SDCC

Doctor Doom

Some comic book to film adaptations are destined for greatness, while others might not be. One such franchise that seems to keep wanting to give its all is the Fantastic Four. The first two movies before 2015’s reboot may have made a ton of cash, but they weren’t the most successful in fans’ eyes. Things became worse with the reboot, even to the point that it was considered an absolute bomb by box office standards. This, of course, begs the question – what can successfully bring this beloved series to fruition on the big screen? Well, it would seem that something is up over at Fox because Legion creator Noah Hawley ended a recent panel at the San Diego Comic-Con with two words: “Doctor Doom.”

Sources have reportedly informed The Hollywood Reporter that a film focused on Doctor Doom is being developed by Hawley for Fox, and it could very well be the reboot that is needed to get the Fantastic Four-verse on its feet. Seeing as the basic formula of Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, The Human Torch, and The Thing hasn’t been working out so well, why not throw the supervillain into the driver’s seat and see how things play out? Considering the 2015 reboot bombed so terribly that it lost director Josh Trank his Star Wars prequel job, it seems that the only direction to go is up.

For those not in the know, Doctor Doom is the alias for Victor Von Doom, the scientific genius that happens to rule a fictional country named Latveria. Naturally, he isn’t the kindest of rulers. After all, he does a wear a metal mask to cover the disfigured face that he has. Toby Kebbell took on the role in the 2015 reboot, while Julian McMahon donned the mask in the first two movies. It also seems that Hawley might have his eyes set on directing, so stay tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops, and for more news coming out of the Marvel spectrum of things, check out the following:

What say you, moviegoers? Should Doctor Doom receive his own standalone film? Would it be a suiting start to a rebooted franchise that can’t seem to stick the landing? Who should play the lead role?
