Developer Calls For PewDiePie to be Cutoff After New Racial Slur Controversy

The YouTuber everyone loves to hate, Felix Kjellberg aka PewDiePie, was previously dropped from Disney and Google after making anti-Semitic remarks in one of his videos and now he’s at it again. The gamer caused an uproar when he used a racial slur in a recent stream while he was frustrated and now Firewatch developer Seaon Vanaman has had enough.

The developer took to Twitter this evening calling PewDiePie out and stating that he wants all Firewatch content removed from the YouTuber’s page:

Vanaman went on to express his anger towards PewDiePie and asking other game companies to follow suit with his plan to cut him off, stating:

“There is a bit of leeway you have to have with the internet when u wake up every day and make video games. There’s also a breaking point. I am sick of this child getting more and more chances to make money off of what we make. He’s worse than a closeted racist: he’s a propagator of despicable garbage that does real damage to the culture around this industry. I’d urge other developers & will be reaching out to folks much larger than us to cut him off from the content that has made him a millionaire. Furthermore, we’re complicit: I’m sure we’ve made money off of the 5.7M views that video has and that’s something for us to think about. Lastly: I love streamers. I watch them daily and we sent out over 3000 keys to professional and amateur streamers of FW.”

It seems that PewDiePie doesn’t grasp that, as someone with over 57 million subscribers, he has a responsibility to conduct himself in a way that is considerate of the viewers. Even after all the backlash he has received time and time again, he just keeps on screwing himself. In February of this year, he was under fire for a video he posted containing Nazi imagery and two people with signs that read “Death to All Jews”. Instead of apologizing for the offensive content, the streamer instead claimed that it was only a “joke gone too far” and that the media was misrepresenting him.

What do you think of this new PewDiePie controversy? Should he be cutoff by the developers who provide him free games? Me too, son… me too.
