New Interview Talks Cross-Play for Dragonball FighterZ and a Nintendo Switch Version

Dragonball FighterZ

The idea of cross-play among games is becoming increasingly popular these days, such as the Rocket League being able to be played between Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC. The feature is being seen in many fighting games unfortunately however, cross-play will not be making an appearance into Bandai Namco and Arc System Works’ Dragonball FighterZ.

During an interview at EVO 2017, Tomoko Hiroki, the producer for Dragonball FighterZ, answered questions about the upcoming title. One of which was whether or not fans could expect to see cross-play between PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Hiroki explained that while the teams at Bandai Namco and Arc System Works do plan to make the game for all three platforms, they do not intend to implement cross-play between them.

According to Hiroki, the team currently has no plans to bring Dragonball FighterZ to the Nintendo Switch, even with the overwhelming fan support for a Nintendo version. Bandai Namco is focused on bringing Dragonball Xenoverse 2 to the console for now and is firmly keeping that as the featured Switch title for now. After that happens, Bandai will think about bringing FighterZ to the latest Nintendo console.

During the early days of gaming, being able to play games across multiple platforms was unheard of. In recent years however the ability to play between console and PC or even console to console has become something that is seen more frequently, or at very least more discussed. Some fans and developers feel that cross-play is a poor idea while others are actively attempting to make the idea work.

Dragonball FighterZ releases in 2018 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Could the developers change their minds about cross-play before then? Let us know your thoughts on the upcoming Super Saiyan fighting game and its exclusion of cross-play in the comments section below.
